Sherbert Shop a Must Stop

Asato Family Store creative director and co-owner Neale Asato mixes ingredients for li hing sour belts.

He began the family business in 2017 and now operates a snack shop at 1306 Pali Highway near the Pali Longs store. The shop is best known for sherbert (he uses the less common two R spelling for sherbet) and Asato says the most popular flavor is li hing float, a throwback to the crack seed store classic. At press time, the shop was open only two days a week: Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sundays 10 to 2. Asato says customers will often skip lunch to wait for sherbert on Wednesdays, so he plans to offer musubi to quell the hunger.
