Our Green Future

People Power
Preparing for our Islands’ futures means rethinking the state of our energy usage. With incentives from Hawaii Energy’s Energy Smart 4 Homes Program, property owners can take a much-needed step toward saving the planet—while also saving serious bucks.
Power to the people of Hawaii? At Hawaii Energy we’re all about it and so is our Energy Smart 4 Homes (ES4H) program. Planning for our state’s future impacts everyone, but the work done through ES4H especially impacts key members of our Island ohana. This community, which includes seniors, families, and non-profit organizations, often gets overlooked. Without the financial means to gain access to these technologies, attention to energy efficiency is often neglected, so ES4H seeks to close this gap.
Leaving these communities in the dark is not an option. The Energy Smart 4 Homes Program is here to lead the way to sustainability, and to better lives for everyone.
So far, the future’s looking bright: Since the program’s inception in 2015, ES4H has successfully retrofitted over 14,000 multifamily residential units on the islands of Oahu, Maui and Hawaii, with a vast majority of those units serviced focusing on demographics with critical needs. With reports like one from the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE), which shows that on average, low-income households pay more than triple the amount of their household income on utilities than higher income households pay, ES4H upgrades are a huge relief for already-struggling families.
