On the 7th floor of the Diamond Head makai tower, Nimfa Wilson and Elizabeth Menor are fluffing pillows and smoothing new comforters for the first guests on floors that have just been renovated. The Hilton has 440 housekeepers and about 80 other people, including managers, in the housekeeping team.

Two floors below, the room has been stripped to bare cement. Over six months, the tower will have undergone a complete renovation of its 383 rooms. The work began June 28 on the 17th floor and was scheduled to end a week before Christmas. As the work moved down, a buffer floor was always kept vacant to muffle construction noise.
