Matt Jefcoats, captain of the Spirit of Aloha, docks the sleek catamaran at the Hilton pier and prepares for the first snorkel cruise of the day. He’ll end up taking 49 customers this day on the 54-foot performance motor-sail catamaran out beyond the reef to “Turtle Canyon,” an area 20 feet deep and about 100 yards past the channel markers that attracts up to 25 turtles a day. “They come up to breathe,” says Jefcoats.
The catamaran’s most popular cruise is Friday nights during the Hilton’s fireworks show. Kakaako Kitchen caters that cruise, which costs $135 per adult.
