Mark Mugiishi, M.D. is chief executive officer of the Hawaiʻi Medical Service Association, where he leads strategy and operations for the state’s largest health insurer, serving more than 750,000 members. A practicing surgeon for nearly 30 years, Dr. Mugiishi has held senior leadership roles in clinical care, medical education, and health system innovation. He joined HMSA’s executive leadership team in 2015 and remains deeply engaged in advancing health outcomes across Hawaiʻi.

Raymond P. Vara, Jr.

President & CEO

Hawai‘i Pacific Health

Raymond P. Vara, Jr. is President and CEO of Hawaii Pacific Health, one of Hawaiʻi’s largest integrated health systems, overseeing four medical centers, a physician network, and more than 70 locations statewide. He joined the organization in 2002 and became CEO in 2013. Vara brings deep operational and financial leadership experience from civilian and military health systems and serves on several local and national boards.

Recognized as Hawaii Business Magazine’s 20 for the Next 20Jason Chang, is the President and CEO of The Queen’s Health Systems, appointed in July 2024. He brings more than 15 years of healthcare leadership experience and previously served as CEO of McAllen Heart Hospital within South Texas Health Systems. Mr. Chang played a key leadership role during the COVID-19, including overseeing Hawai‘i’s first vaccinations.

Vicky Hanes is Chief Operating Officer of Hawaiʻi Island Community Health Center, which serves 40,000 people on the island. It is one of 14 community health centers in the state that provide primary care, medical, dental, behavioral health and social health services. Vicki is also a clinical psychologist.
