Better with ʻUlu

The company started in 2017 after Hawai‘i Island native Loren Shoop merged his favorite hummus recipes featuring beets, jalapeños and turmeric (shown below) with ‘ulu – “and a new product was born,” he says.
Shoop buys fruit from family owned farms on O‘ahu’s windward coast to make his hummus and ‘ulu chips. The garlic sea salt variety just received a national Good Foods Award 2021.
“People love our products. Their eyes light up when they try our chips,” he says. “That brings me a lot of joy.”
As part of a tiny operation, Shoop makes deliveries to stores himself and ships to customers across the U.S. He also operates HawaiianFarmersMarket.com as a buffer when waning ‘ulu supplies limit production.
