In recent years, there has been a notable shift in the banking industry, with more women assuming prominent positions and making substantial contributions. American Savings Bank (ASB) serves as a noteworthy example of this trend, exemplifying the growing presence of women in traditionally male-dominated fields.

At ASB, everyone is committed to creating a great place to bank and work for people of all ethnicities, ages and genders, including its nearly 65% wahine workforce, where nearly half of the executives are female, including their president and CEO, Ann Teranishi.

A Culture of Inclusivity

It’s important to create a welcoming space that accepts and supports people with different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences. It’s a core value that’s instilled in ASB teammates on day one.

Year after year, ASB is recognized nationally and locally for being an exceptional employer with awards like Hawaii Business Magazine Best Places to Work in Hawaii, American Banker Magazine Best Banks to Work For, Forbes Best Employers for Women and more.

Mentorship and Professional Development

When women are provided the right resources, support and opportunities, they can advance and excel in extraordinary ways, personally and professionally. Since 2015, the ASB Women’s Network has brought together teammates company-wide with discussions unique to women in the workplace. Participants help select topics of interest and meet quarterly to hear from guest speakers, develop new skills and build their network.

Over the years, the Women’s Network has rallied to support important causes in the community, such as YWCA’s Dress for Success program, Habitat for Humanity’s Wahine Build, the “Me Too” movement, and was one of the founding sponsor organizations of the Safe Spaces and Workplaces initiative.
