Aloha Town

Suburbs

3,000,000 square feet of traffic verges and medians cared for by the C&C’s Department of Facility Maintenance. BTW, a traffic verge is a narrow strip of grass, plants or trees, located between the road surface or curb and the boundary of a road.

Parks and Recreation

Oahu has nearly 300 public parks and botanical gardens, of which 86 are staffed. Facilities include:

Oahu’s parks system offers:
Classes in dog obedience, archery, hula, aerobics, swimming, yoga, medicinal plants, synchronized swimming, baking from scratch, ballroom dance, hulacise, crochet, karate, ikebana, water polo, mahjong, standup paddleboarding, sewing, lei making, food photography and pickleball.

Did you know:
You don’t legally own Fido until he’s registered with the city. It costs $10 to register your adult neutered dog, and a weirdly specific $28.50 to register your adult unneutered dog.

Oahu generates about 2.2 million tons of solid waste every year. That’s more than four times the weight of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world.

You can flush it and forget it, but the city can’t. Removing wastewater is just as important as garbage removal. Oahu’s 2,100 miles of wastewater pipeline handle 112 million gallons a day from our toilets, sinks, tubs and more.

Wastewater is treated at nine facilities and then pumped to the ocean or injected underground. Sometimes it’s recycled and reused for industry or irrigation.

Can you really bike on the sidewalk? Yes, in residential areas. Assuming there is a sidewalk to begin with.

Sorry, no blasting off: We seem to be the only place in the U.S. with satellite city halls. C&C has nine around the Island where you can avail yourself of government services. Outlying offices for other municipalities don’t get such a space-age term.
