Fiber Internet is Available for Maui Businesses
Hawaiian Telcom is the only Hawai‘i internet service provider that has invested more than $1 billion since 2010 to expand and support its network and serve its customers on Maui and throughout the state
As part of its efforts to connect all of Hawai’i with high-speed fiber internet, Hawaiian Telcom announced that Fioptics Internet is now available to the majority of the businesses on Maui.
Fiber internet offers several benefits over legacy copper cables—most notably, speed because signals travel through the fiber network at the speed of light. Fiber is future-proof meaning a fiber network’s ability to handle future capacity demands is virtually unlimited. What’s more, fiber is greener, using less energy than its copper counterpart.
Hawaiian Telcom is the only Hawai‘i internet service provider that has invested more than $1 billion since 2010 to expand and support its network and serve its customers on Maui and throughout the state. Approximately 337,000 homes and businesses in Hawai‘i have access to Fioptics, Hawaiian Telcom’s 100% fiber internet service. In 2024, Hawaiian Telcom plans to enable 60,000 additional locations with fiber.
Expanding the future-proof fiber network is important because it enables Hawaiian Telcom to help bridge the digital divide and increase digital equity in Hawai‘i. Hawaiian Telcom is investing to expand fiber to all areas of our state, including unserved and underserved areas. Last year it completely enabled the island of Lana‘i and the vast majority of Moloka‘i with access to its fiber infrastructure. This year, Hawaiian Telcom is working to expand its fiber network in Paia, Haiku, Kula, Wailuku and Kihei on Maui.
