ISLAND ENERGY
Island Energy Services recently celebrated its first anniversary, and although it might not be a household name yet, it started with a firm foothold in the Islands as it acquired Chevron’s assets in Hawaii in November 2016.
The assets include a refinery in Kapolei, four distribution terminals and 56 Texaco stations on Oahu, Kauai,
Hawaii island and Maui County, including Molokai.
“Island Energy provides products and services that are critical to the state of Hawaii’s residents, businesses and visitors,” said Jon Mauer, Island Energy’s president and CEO, a 29-year energy industry veteran who was formerly with Chevron. “Whether it’s the gasoline that powers your car, the diesel fuel that generates electricity for your home, the propane that keeps the appliances at your favorite restaurant running or the fuel that enables jumbo jets to bring nearly 9 million visitors from all over the world to Hawaii to support tourism, the state’s biggest industry, Island Energy locally manufactures and distributes products and services essential to meeting those daily needs.”
During the past year, Island Energy has:
- Added 50 local jobs in finance, IT, procurement, human resources and legal services (under Chevron, those roles were filled by personnel from the Mainland and other countries). When Island Energy opens its 57th station, Kamokila Texaco in Kapolei, this summer, it will hire another 12 people to operate it, bringing its workforce to nearly 360.
- Built the company’s infrastructure, including all of the business and software applications needed to support on-island operations. The new infrastructure included new phone and fiber optics systems and setting up finance, human resources and data processing systems and other applications on new local secured servers.
- Rebranded its stations as Texaco, a Chevron brand. Set to be completed this month, the work included new paint, signage and fueling dispensers and expanded diesel and propane offerings.
As Island Energy heads into its second year of operations, it is well positioned to grow and improve its business while continuing to provide its high-quality products and services safely and reliably across the state of Hawaii.
